HEALTH & WELLNESS RESOURCES

The number: 52%

More people were hospitalized in 2014 than the county average because of preventable chronic diseases
This alarming statistic highlights the importance of creating equitable access to health services in South Hayward.

The entire second floor of Stack Center will house a variety of health services:
  • An expanded pediatric clinic
  • A new behavioral health clinic
  • Pediatric dental care

In addition, Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center will continue to operate the companion Firehouse Clinic across Tennyson Park, which opened in 2016 and provides adult health and dental care.

The Stack Center's health providers are committed to creating integrated systems. The goal is to provide seamless partnering of services and easy referrals for families. There will be a one-stop reception desk and centralized enrollment staff who can provide insurance screenings for multiple services.

Covid-19 response

The block that is home to the Firehouse Clinic, Tennyson Park, and future Stack Center has been a service hub for community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the location of the nation's first free, City-initiated testing site and one of the first community vaccination sites in Alameda County.

These operations were launched by the Hayward Fire Department in partnership with Tiburcio Vasquez, La Familia, and other community partners. This past year has demonstrated the commitment, collaboration, and effectiveness Stack Center partners bring when serving the South Hayward community.

Building off of this success, the Hayward Fire Department has identified the future Stack Center as an disaster response hub for the Hayward community. The Center's design incorporated features that will allow the site to be quickly converted to provide shelter, food distribution, and neighborhood recovery during potential future emergencies.
